You are invited to join the weekly Nuremberg Research Seminar in Economics on 24 April  2024, from 13.15 to 14.45 pm. The seminar will be held via Zoom. Javier Fernández-Blanco (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) will be talking about „On the Increase in the U.S.  Participation at Older Ages”.

More information can be found here:

Men’s participation in the labor force   at older ages has continued increasing since the mid 1990s in the US. What economic forces drive this pattern?  How do the time changes of the various risks and  labor income interplay? What are the implications for welfare and lifetime earnings inequality?  We address these questions using a structural model in which both unobserved and observed health play a central role. The model is calibrated to match the age profiles by health status of participation rates, median wealth and average annual earnings. Our  preliminary work shows the potential of the model to generate an increase in participation comparable to the one observed in the data,  particularly regarding the healthy individuals.
